Paint To Sample? Paint Protected!
Already a spectacular vehicle before we detailed an inch of it, this 2022 new Porsche GT3 underwent a paint protection detail fresh off the trailer! Finished in Oak Green Metallic, a custom-ordered color through Porsche’s Paint To Sample program, there are plenty of reasons to start off on the right foot with comprehensive protection.

As usual, we’re starting off the detail with a rinse, foam bath, hand wash and surface decontamination. Removing any delivery film residue or trace contamination from the paint’s surface is part of all paint correction detail services, let alone a ceramic coating or STEK PPF install. Because this Porsche GT3 was as new as you can get them, there was very little polishing necessary, but certain areas did need a bit of smoothing out. Even on a new vehicle, this detailing process will still take us a couple of hours to complete!
Moving right along to the preparation for our STEK DYNOshield PPF install, we start by removing certain pieces of trim. This will allow the 8 mil thick paint protection film to lay down more conveniently, as well as reduce the number of seams for a near-invisible installation. The classic Porsche hood crest is removed and we’re able to tuck the film underneath, and the corner marker lights are removed, allowing us to hide the edges of the film. For this new Porsche GT3’s gooseneck wing, we went as far as removing it so that we can wrap the PPF over top and leading edges more completely!
What you’re seeing in the picture above is the front bumper being wrapped with a “bulk” piece of PPF. While making our lives as detailers and PPF installers much more convenient, pre-cut pieces of film off our large format plotter do not always satisfy our desires for the most coverage possible. “Bulking” a piece of paint protection film allows us to decide where the film ends, instead of a predetermined border that we have to line up. The end result on this Porsche’s bumper was superior coverage!
